Weekly Update

Didn’t make a post last week and two days late this week, but that is because several jobs all came in at once, which is quite exciting! Along with getting this website up and running earlier this month, I finally was able to become verified on Google. I tried last year and thought it went through after doing a live support call, but I found out last week it got revoked. I was pretty irritated, since Google is the biggest audience on the internet. I was rejected for not having a sign by the road so I quickly ordered a large yard sign from FedEx and once delivered, took another verification video. After two days I got denied again for not showing a sign or address, even though I had. Signed up for another live call and this time was only on the call for a couple of minutes; just long enough to show the sign and the software I use at my computer. Few hours later I was verified. As luck would have it, I got phone call just a couple days later from a now-client that found me via a Google search

That particular client proposed a very interesting project to me. He runs a Buddist temple here in Central New York that is located on a beautiful 500 acre parcel of land. I went out in person to take a tour of the grounds and discuss options for their project. They need a new two story dormitory, possibly constructed with post-frame (aka barndominium) construction. I already have a first draft of that building completed.

At the same time, I also have an ICF house, a remodel, and a floorplan design job that I’m working on, all of which have their own fun, unique flair to.

As for some personal stuff, my dad came up to visit two weekends ago to help me build my own house. We were able to get several pre-drywall punchlist items completed as well as grouted two bathrooms. After he left I grouted about 2/3rds of our mud room by myself which took me about two hours and was pretty exhausting since I used epoxy grout which is a lot stiffer than regular sanded grout. I also received a shipment of pex parts in the mail so I nearly finished making my manifold. Other than a few more small items to tackle, hooked up my electrical home runs to the panel and setting up my whole-house water filter are the only things left before drywall and hardwoods go in, then we can move in finally.

Then, last week my father-in-law and his wife came to visit for several days. We took the kids to the Syracuse zoo which I hadn’t been to yet. It felt both large and small at the same time. Even going slow it only took us two or three hours to walk around, and there were hardly any other people there which was nice, but the exhibits themselves were larger than even Riverbanks Zoo in South Carolina which was cool to see. Definitely would recommend a visit to anyone in NY that hasn’t been before.
