First Blog Post!

Two weeks after the first anniversary of Muse Design and Drafting, LLC, I have finally created my website! I learning how to manually code websites when I was in high school in the early 00s but never kept up with the knowledge or new tools. Back then Adobe Dreamweaver was pretty new and a lot of us mocked it for being easy enough for a lay person to use. The tools of today are an order of magnitude easier to use. Tech is so common you can even pay the equivalent of a night out to pay someone to create a website for you on a website like Fiver. I did get my logo from Fiver last year and thought the process was very easy and convenient. However, after looking at my options for web design I decided to do it myself.

Sometime between 2010 and 2015 I had the idea to create a food blog and made a website with Square Space. At the time, I found their editor very restricting and much harder to use than advertised, even with my IT background. When I decided a couple of weeks ago to start working on my website (even though I need to be finishing building my house so my family of four can move out of our tiny RV), I researched the different options out there. It came down to Wix, Square Space, and Wordpress. It took almsot no time at all to realize Wordpress is much more complcated, and capable, than what I need for a portfolio website. Between the other two, reviews say Wix is easier but Square Space is more professional, but that Square Space is better for ecommerce and portfolio work. Since I plan to sell predesigned plans through this website, and this website mostly exists as my porfolio, I decided to try Square Space agsin. I’m glad I did because there have been massive changes since the last time I was on the platform. While I did have my basic flow chart of a website figured out in powerpoint before I started, I was able to create the foundation of this website including every base page, and all designs and color schemes, in just two hours. It took me about 15-20min of clicking around to get comfortable with how things were and then jsut went for it. While this website is still in its infancy, I’m proud of how it has turned out
